Utah alt-rock trio The Sunmills are set to release their infectious new single ‘The World Lights Up For You’ on 30th June, a groove-driven anthem packed with irresistible basslines, soaring hooks, and enough feel-good energy to live up to its title.
While recent material saw the band exploring darker and more cinematic territory, ‘The World Lights Up For You’ finds The Sunmills reconnecting with the funk-rock swagger that first shaped their sound. Driven by punchy rhythms, vibrant bass work, and a chorus built to stick with listeners long after the song ends, it’s a track that wears its influences proudly while feeling fresh and unmistakably their own.
What began as an attempt to write something full of confidence and attitude soon took on a life of its own.
Inspired by the swagger of Red Hot Chili Peppers and the larger-than-life energy of tracks like ‘The Man’ by The Killers, the song’s central character was originally imagined as someone boasting about how great life was. But as the lyrics developed, a different story emerged.
Beneath the groove is a character struggling to keep everything together. The verses paint a picture of bad luck, burnout, wrong turns and self-destruction. He’s far from invincible. Then comes the chorus, where everything changes.
Suddenly, red lights turn green, storm clouds disappear, and even his shadow starts to shine.
‘The World Lights Up For You’ captures that transformative moment when one person enters your life and changes the way you see everything around you. It’s a song about hope arriving unexpectedly, about finding light in difficult places, and about the extraordinary impact one person can have on someone else’s world.
The track also marks another step forward for the band as they continue to refine their sound. Their latest material aims for a rare sweet spot between rock, funk and pop — groove-forward, emotionally direct, and packed with hooks designed to connect with the widest audience possible without sacrificing the band’s personality.
Currently working on their second album with producer Jed Jones (The Killers, Post Malone), The Sunmills are embracing a more focused songwriting approach than ever before. The result is music that feels sharper, more confident and more immediate, while retaining the wit, energy and authenticity that have always set them apart.
With its infectious bassline, uplifting message and undeniable sense of fun, ‘The World Lights Up For You’ is a reminder that sometimes all it takes is one person to make everything feel a little brighter.
‘The World Lights Up For You’’ will be released on all platforms on June 30th

ABOUT THE SUNMILLS
The Sunmills are a Utah-based alt-rock trio blending punchy riffs with funk-laced grooves and a sharp sense of humour. Early releases pulled in Hendrix-style guitar work and the swagger of Red Hot Chili Peppers, pairing high-energy sounds with lyrics that poke at modern life — especially our obsession with image, success, and carefully curated identities.
Their debut album, The Art of Burning Bridges (2025), didn’t come easy. What started as a quick studio session turned into a multi-year process, shaped by delays, a pandemic, and even a full studio rebuild. But when it was finally done, it was something they genuinely believed in.
Now, they’re evolving. With new material, The Sunmills are pushing into a bigger, more cinematic sound while keeping the edge and character that define them — proving they’re not just finding their feet, but hitting their stride.
